Toby Trice Overcomes Adversity at oulton park
Trice showcased remarkable resilience and determination during rounds 3, 4, and 5 of the Porsche Sprint Challenge at Oulton Park. Overcoming significant setbacks, Toby secured valuable championship points, proving his tenacity and skill.
The weekend began with a promising start in Friday practice. Toby finished P3 in the first session on old tyres, indicating a strong performance ahead. However, an accident in the second practice session caused extensive damage to the car, preventing participation in qualifying. Despite this setback, the atmosphere in the team remained incredible.
"The atmosphere in the team was incredible," Toby shared. "Everyone just switched it on and knew exactly what they were doing. Each and every person was critical to the car being back out, and it was remarkable to see the efforts made. I am so proud of what they have achieved. I also want to thank everyone who reached out with their concerns; it meant the world to us knowing that our fans were right behind us."
The overnight repair was a massive operation, with team members travelling from across the country, bringing spare parts and expertise. "The overnight repair was a huge operation. People travelling from across the country carrying spare parts or arriving at the track with expert skills to ensure the repair was done successfully. I couldn't single anyone out other than I am hugely grateful for each and every single person who made the repair possible," Toby explained.
Despite the challenges, Toby’s mindset remained focused and determined. "The mindset was to try and put what happened to me in practice behind. Although challenging, I hit the corners as hard as I'd done many times before and concentrated on seeking the most out of the car each lap. It was great to chip away and make progress in each of the races."
Race Summaries:
Round 3: Starting from the pit lane in P22, Toby fought his way to finish 15th overall and 8th in class.
Round 4: Starting P11, he finished 10th overall and 7th in class.
Round 5: Once again starting P11, Toby achieved a strong finish at P8 and 6th in class.
The first flying lap of the weekend was particularly challenging. "The most challenging moment was my first flying lap. I had absolute confidence in the repair that was made, but we knew going into the race that the car was not fully set up due to time constraints. However, the car felt like new and I was able to get my head down and concentrate on the race ahead," Toby recounted.
Reflecting on the weekend’s experiences, Toby emphasized the lessons learned and the support received. "If anything, it has taught me more about never giving up and that challenges like this help shape the people we are. We become more resilient, focused, and determined after situations like this. Despite feeling horrendously guilty for the damage, the cost, and the sacrifice everyone had to make to get us back on the grid, I am ever more aware of the incredible support I have from my sponsors, the team, and all our fans. We move on, stronger than before."
Despite the challenges, Toby’s perseverance and Clean Racing’s support exemplified the spirit of teamwork and dedication, setting a positive tone for the rest of the season.
